2.0S rebuilt as 2.2S

My 2.0S engine was "expanded" by the PO to 2.2. When I had the engine rebuilt we found this out (he didn't tell me) I simply put in 2.2S barrels and pistons since the heads had been machined.
Now that I am driving around I noticed the engine pulls a lot stronger with the ignition advanced to 16 deg at idle (not sure at 6,000 rpm). When I had the ignition put back at 5 deg and 30 deg at 6,000 the engine had no real pickup as you increased the revs.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be the case? I mean, does the non-spec engine size, changes potentially impact my ignition timing. I wouldn't think so. Not being experienced with P cars, I would appreciative of any viewpoints as to whether the two things are related, if at all.

Fred
