Re-Chromed Crank?

Hello again. I am in the process of locating a crankshaft for my '89 930. I've had one offered to me that has been "re-chromed". Any ideas what that means?

Thanks!

Sounds like the crank had a failure. Instead of welding the journal they hard chromed it.
The preferred method is to weld the journal, grind the crankshaft and nitride. Nitriding stress relieves the welded area and rehardens the entire crankshaft.
Call Armando at C.C.R, 650-342-0568 he specializes in Porsche crankshaft work and can give you the details.

I'd look for one that hasn't been repaired. It shouldn't be much more $ but it would be more reliable.

Good standard 930 cranks appear to be going for about $1500 nowadays.
