Beginner needing dial indicator familiarization
Never have used one. Have to use the one pictured below to set the cam timing....
1. The make of my indicator is (I think) says on the box.. Preisser. 2. Also on the box it says: Artikelnr, Messuhr Drm. 58mm stossg 3. Then it says: 0.01mm 10 mm Wayne's book p. 165 mention a "counter" on some gauges. Any information on the one pictured below appreciated. (One other thing..those pointy things I can screw in the gauge on the top and the bottom of the gauge. I have two of the pointy extension "needles" Thanks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1107555737.jpg |
Okay, the counter is the small dial at about the 6:30 position. Every time the big needle sweeps (probably 1 mm) the little one will move to show how many times the big one has gone around. You will one of the extensions on the bottom to make the plunger long enough to reach the top of the valve when the indicator is in the Z block. You can set the moveable markers on the side of the dial to show the desired measurement so that you will know easily when you are there.

(I can also take the smaller pointed extension shown in the pic, and screw it on the top in place of the "button") I have two extensions that came with the indicator shown in the pic. Are these for the touching the top of the valve only? Thanks |
it is pointing at 80 now with 0 preload on teh dial - thats how you want it when stored.
when you actually use the gauge, you will put in the extension, then set the dial gauge in teh Z block. You will preload the dial gauge 5mm so the small needle is pointing at the 5 and teh big needle is pointing roughly at 0 (it is isn't at 0, you can rotate teh face of the dial to get there. each full revolution of the big needle is 1mm. The indicator actually touches teh top of the valve spring AFJuvat |

Yes, the preload is set by sliding the dial up or down in the Z-block.

Hope this helps further clarify what you have here. If translation pages didn't pick up on those words, it is because they are most all abbreviations. George |
