More HP out of my Ruf SCR
I have a CIS '76 3.0 Carrera (200HP standard) which has been modified by Ruf to SCR specifications (98 mm pistons and cylinders with 9,8:1 compression = 3185ccm).
I have stock heat exchangers with a 1 in 2 out muffler made by the former owner, which produces a nice deep sound: http://212.9.180.100:8080/ramgen/pc_danmark/01_cup3_Mikael.rm My engine produces 224 HP at the crank. I use the car 30% for the track... I've thought about upgrading to SSI's and another muffler (2 in 2 out). How much gain in HP will this give me and what muffler do you suggest (I would like a deep sound from the exhaust and not a metallic high sound)? What about upgrading crank/cams? Will you recommend this compared to gain in HP? Thanks! |
In my expeirence, 3 things make HP, cams, compression and cubic inches. If you have a good exhaust and intake, then take your pick as which to upgrade.
Since you have the 3.0 carrera case, then a crank doesn't really work, the 3.2 crank only works in SC and carrera cases and you've already bumped up your capacity and compression ratio, all that I see that's left is cams. how fast do you want to spin your motor. |
I think most people get from 10-24 hp from the ssi and muffler upgrade. More so for SC type cars and less for carreras. This is one of the cheaper dollar/hp gains you can get out of the post 74 cars.

SSI's and 964 cams will work nicely with 9.8-1 compression.

I almost feel flattered that you would ask us. If it were me I'd ask Alois Ruf. he knows more about that engine than anyone here.
I've met him twice and talked to him once, doesn't seem like the kinda guy that wouldn't offer some advice. |
