Wiseco Pistons anyone?
Anyone ever use Wiseso pistons?
I see Porsche listed in their piston order sheet. Anyone know how these compare to JE pistons? |
As motorcycles go, I hear everything from they are 'best thing since sliced bread' through 'I'd never use those pieces of cr^p'. The consensus I get is that is they are high quality. As for Porsche applications, I don't know.

Yep, Wiseco is a well ingrained named in the motocycle world, which led to my query after seeing that they also make Porsche pistons.

What kinda price Souk? That would strongly affect my choice. I have heard the same, love em or hate em; mostly from street rod types though.

I don't know yet Don. I wanted some opinion here before I spend any more time on them.

Weisco and J&E are the same company. They combined about 3 years ago.

Here is the order sheet for custom pistons... (I'm not affliated..just looking for alternative sources!) http://www.wiseco.com/PDFcatalogs/2002_Auto_screen-custom.pdf |
I was looking last year and Ross Pistons had the best deal. The only pistons I would stay away from are Aries. They use a low silicone content aluminum and that causes large expansion rates.
Good Luck, neilca |
Thanks neilca. Did you end up with the Ross? Feedback?
JE makes a higher than normal silicone content piston, but it's not available for 911's. I asked then before and was told it will not be available any time soon. Do we know what the metallurgy of the Ross piston is? |
Souk, I checked on-line about Weisco and found that they only offer pistons for the 944. I don't know how old the info is on their site.(edit; thats just their stock listing, not their custom order stuff)
|
One thing I find odd about Ross' website is I can't find any mention of Porsche pistons.

Souk
I found some "S" pistons for that motor. Pistons from J&E, Weisco, or Ross are custom made forged pistons. They are good stuff and you can get whatever you want. A few years ago J&E told me they would make any piston I want for $98 each. I am sure it is up from that price now, but for a custom forged piston you cannot beat the price. All three manufacturers make good stuff. Get a quote from all three and go with the cheapest. You will have done the right thing. neilca |
Wow! $98 per... and yep, I think the currently available forged pistons are good alternatives.
