MFI Question
Can velocity stacks be added to an MFI system without much modification.
I have the entire air assembly on now and would like to see the stacks open like I have seen on other motors here. Are these avalible new or is this a used parts search Thanks |
Uh... The stock MFI system has velocity stacks already. I've also never seen any evidence that the factory air cleaner assembly restricts the engine in any way as long as the filter is in good shape.
Sure you can remove the air clean assembly and go to separate air cleaners over each bank, but then you'll also need watershields if you ever drive in the rain. In the end, the engine will perform the same* and just be a little louder. * Unless you have some sort of 10/10ths race motor. |
Thnaks John
Yeah it's more of a cool factor than anything else. I drive the car 90% track 10% street and stay away from the rain. I questioned this option becasue of the photos on Wanye's book and looking at the 72 from Supertec (I think thats the name) The red one. I also read a few threads about mods to the K&N rain sheilds but I question if this will all fit under a duck tail. I spoke to a few who said the original MFI stacks are too tall even with the mods. Thanks John -John |
why change, when it's been proven the stock filter actually improves HP and torque.
Here's the dyno sheets. http://d240157.u39.zeonhost.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4752&page=3&pp=15&highlight=dyno+ stock+filter+open |

Thanks Guys
After reading. Looks like the $ may be better spent elsewhere. Besides with the air box it will look like the stock motor it's supposed to be. This way I can continue to tell all the 993 guys it's just a 2.4 ! Thanks for all the feedback. |
Hi,
I'm the guy who did the testing in the first referenced thread and I just wanted to clarify the results. In my testing the stock airbox did not make more ABSOLUTE power, but rather it made more power from about 3,000 rpm to 6,600 rpm. If I were trying to get the utmost power out of my stock motor (ie not running hotter cams, bigger ports, and a higher redline) I would stick with the stock airbox. HOWEVER, the open venturies did make more power than the stock airbox starting at 6,600 rpm and do make a higher peak HP number. Now, if you are not trying to squeeze every last HP out of your car I would recommend you try the K&N filters. While you loose a few HP though much of the normal operating range when compared to the stock airbox, you gain a wonderful intake howl that is a joy to live with. The sound alone makes the car feel faster and more fun to drive. Brooke |

What are you trying to do here with those photos : ) So I assume that those red stacks would fit my 2.7 with MFI What's the damage? Thanks John@e-home.com |
