machine shop SJ bay area ?
any recommendations for a machine shop in the SJ area ? planning a rebuild soon. No significant issues except obvious wear as evidenced by the increased oil cloud on startup, and reduced numbers on leakdown. Just getting real tired after almost 250K ! thanks.

I'm using Ted Robinson at German Precision in Sunnyvale. He's been great.
I asked the exact same question on this board a few months ago and he was recommended by several. http://www.germanprecisioninc.com/ (408) 747-0728 |
Ted is it for 911 heads according to many suggestions I got...my heads, rockers and rocker shafts are down there now. Be forwarned that his shop and inside the shop is very unassuming (IMHO). In any case Ted is a very nice guy and has lots of interesting stories....Good luck. I think he lost count of how many 911 heads he has done about 15 years ago. ;-)

Ted will do your heads, see Elgin for your cams. go see Bob at

Another vote for Ted. Elgin did my cams, although this was before John (camgrinder) went out on his own.

I would strongly suggest you give a call to John before going to Elgin. John provides a lot of support to people on this forum. I'm not a cam expert but I've been able to communicate with John to get questions answered on my 3.2 and at Elgins all the times I've called I was only able to get the shipping person on the phone to answer questions. The is a cam place called W****m, but a recent local issue with them makes me suspicious at this point. It may turn out to not be a quality issue with W****m. I don't want to bad mouth any cam companies, it could very likely be they all do good work. I do like the personal service I've been able to get with John.
That's my 3 cents. -Henry |
