Question Machine Shop Labor Charges

Am begining to plan disassembly of engine. Engine rebuilt by professional Porsche shop in California (as per dealer). I have had the car for nearly three years now.

Can't wait to receive Wayne's book and get the poerplant sorted..

Spoke with Mike Bruns today at JB Racing, and he will perform inspection of engine components for me. My mind is working but the wrenches aren't turning.

Please advise if you have a quick list of what a machine shop time charges are so I can continue with the planning process tonight.

Mike will help me fnd out what is needed and help putting the engine back together for me (If Imay need a tool or two , he can help).

Here i what have in mnd today:
I will disassmble engine and clean (although it was very dry before and with out any drops on the garage floor)

JB Racing will:
Inspection of engine components and case;
Measuring: bore roundness
install new rod bolts (12)
install rods & pistons (6) into cylinders
instal cams, cam housingcovers, time cams
install distributor
receive crank and install (depending on if go with used or machined crank)
install pistons & cylinders
install heads

I will take it from there. Reinstall intake, wires, fuel lines, flush tank and oil lines, engine oil cooler, front oil cooler.

Trying to get by with buying parts that must be replaced.

I am planning on the following from the top of my head:

Crank (if not within SPEC)
Raceware or ARP rod bolts
rod bearings
main bearings (more than likely)
int shaft bearings
cam bearings
misc gaskets and fasteners, and sealers

Thanks for bearing with me. This is all off the top of my head as I have never had my hands on a Porsche engine manual. but I have many hours reading Tuners web sites, technical forums, and conversations with Racers/Tuners who have taught me so much over the last 5 years.

Background:

I have car serviced exclusively by Porsche expert(s-plural because I moved to another city since purchasing it). The shops have performed routine maintenance. It has been seen by mechanic regular for service and maintenance.

Engine has been rebuilt 59K miles ago. The car may have a chip as it revs to 7200 easily (although I don't let it rev that much [as per one of my mechanics]). Has K&N air filter. Updated exhaust. Newer fuel pump(I replaced the DME before taking her into shop). As I stated above idle control valve replaced. Newer wires (firebraid type), cap rotor. Stainless steel braised fuel line on engine. Newer Alignement. Newer tires. Newer starter. When I say newer I mean new, but replaced several thousand miles ago.

During the replacement of the fuel line, my regular (Porsche racing/service specialists) shop worked on the car(the tech was owner's son (also an expert). I was content with him being the mechanic although I was expecting to have another tech (who had worked on one of my previous 911's ['83's 3.0 with CIS]) work on it. Tech forgot to put "idle tensioning spring" back on. We had determined this but as engine was hot, I personally reinstalled the spring the next day. I mention this because I was expecting the shop to pull the intake off and work on fuel line from above (as advised by a service advisor [if I recall correctly] at shop [also Porsche racing/service specialists) that replaced my fuel pump [I was out of town when that happenned so that is why used two shops] that that was how fuel line would be replaced. I am wondering if by dropping down the engine (not removing it- just dropping it down), as the owner's son did, he caused a problem with the throttle cable.

The car had slight clutch chatter first discussed with service advisor (that I noticed mostly in reverse, and then later progressed to an "actual problem") at that time of the fuel pump replacement, but was minimal. The clutch was replaced very recently (This time by still another shop-yes that's right-I moved to another city), and they also adjusted valves, replaced plugs, valve cover gaskets.

It is a daily driver (I drove it on the highway a lot) and runs very nice and all my mechanics complement me on the condition of the cosmetics ad mechanics of the car.

I think the reason why the oil line broke was that after the e news lace ngleft side motor mount nut fell off and the engine ran with out it util I discovered the problem. But Ithink that is a variable in the "why" did the oil line blew.

Please advise if you have a quick list of what a machine shop time charges are so I can continue with the planning process tonight.

Don Enderline just had his machine work done by them. He was very happy with their service and work
