Measuring the crank: rod journal dimensions
Last night I cleaned and measured up the crank. Its a 78/9 3.0 (930/04).
I have a few questions. I don’t have the actual numbers here since I left the notepad at home. The crank journals all measure in spec. This is good. The rod journals are where I have a problem. Wayne’s book lists the rod journals as being 2.04X” with a range when converted from metric. Every single one of mine measures 2.08x” with no more than 0.0008” variance. This is good since they all measure the same. This is bad since they are larger than the book value. Obviously, they are not worn down too much or they would be smaller than 2.04” and there would likely be no precision between numbers. I am confused. Any suggestions? Do I have the wrong specs? I don't have any literature here at work to compare with. |
I guess you didn't catch my second email in time so I'll post for the sake of others. THis was a typo in the book
see this page for proper specs http://www.101projects.com/911-Rebuild/corrections.htm |
Found the answer in the corrections section. The change from 52.xx in teh book to 53.xxx puts me right in the range. Sorry for wasting the bandwidth. now I know where the corrections are.
Page 204 - The 911SC Rod Bearing Journals should be 53.020-53.059 for the bore, and 52.971-52.990 for the shaft |
Thanks Tim. I just posted the info you emailed. I also looked up the other corrections and will print and copy them into my book tonight.

"Shaft" is diameter of journal, right? Also "Clearances" from what? Please enlighten me. Thanks |
