I am looking at a 1986 Porsche 3.3 motor. The seller says it is out of a '86 930. The numbers on the case are 930.101.104.5R and 64H99810. I have heard from another Porsche guy that this is out of a carrera and this is NOT a turbo motor. Is this correct? What car did it come out of? If the motor is not a turbo motor what is the difference in this motor and a turbo motor? Thanks

The only difference between the 3.3 Turbo and Carrera cases is the serial number and types. The case casting number (930......5R) is the same for both . The type number for a carrera is 930/21, I think a turbo is 930/68? That case was on ebay if I'm not mistaken? In any case, good luck!

So are the internals of the case the same? could the case be successfully used as a 930 case for building a 930 engine?

Well the crank is the same, with a different dizzy gear, the rods are the same, and the layshaft is the same. The oil pump is much bigger on the turbo...but that's easily changed out on the carrera.
Yes, you can use a 3.2 case for a turbo...same thing w/ the oil pump.
