I need two new Rocker Arms, Why do I have to have the Cam and Rockers Re-ground?
 

It doesn't make sense to me but can anyone help. I have two broken rockers on the right side cam, an intake and exhaust were broken, why do I have to perform work (grinding) on new rockers and the cam? I magnufluxed the cam and it had no cracks so what's the big deal? Your comments are greatly appreciated.

If you know how to inspect rockers and lobes, then you may not have to.
If you have decent lobes, and a good pair of used replacement rockers, then you can install them and check their mesh with one another with some Prussian Blue to make sure that they are square.
Otherwise, there may be high pressure points that will wear rapidly and the surface hardening will chip off from the heat and stress.

In general, the parts wear with each other. Putting in new rockers with old cams is like giving yourself a new set of lower teeth in your mouth. You'll have wear points at the high points where they meet - not really a good thing.

However, you can sometimes get away with it if your camshaft is not worn too much...

Wayne - great analogy with the teeth. I take it you are speaking from a bad dental experience? :-)

Alex- you might consider taking all the rockers out and putting RSR seals on the shafts and checking the condition of the other rockers.

I have all my rockers out and have already bought my entire rebuild kit from Pelican, including the RSR seals. I plan to check the rockers out as well. Any suggestions on who can recondition my rockers in Northern California, or is it really needed if everything looks well?
