Threadlock question..
 

Which 'Loctite' Threadlock should I be using on my exhaust port studs, valve covers and the like on my Carrera 3.0 Engine. I was under the impression that 'Red' was the one. Just visited the Loctite site and there are loads of different 'Red' types.246,294,222,222MS etc.etc. Does it really matter which I use? I'm sure it does....cheers M

I wouldn't use any on the exhaust port studs. "Red" Loctite is usually 272 here in the states.

Having just had to drill out, re-tap and helicoil three of my exhaust studs I have a sneaky suspicion they don't fall out to often;)

I would actually use anti-seize in the threads, and just check the nuts periodically. Much easier than replacing broken studs.;)

Many thanks...no thread lock on the exhaust studs. Just copper grease. How about using stainless steel bolts instead of studs. Wouldn't that stop them seizing inplace?

I don't think that stainless and aluminum goes together that well. I not sure but someone may be able to clear that up?

Yes I am, I came across an ad for it in a magazine.
