73 911T 2.4 rebuild
 
Hi everyone, first time post here. This looks to be a really good message board, a lot if information. Will I have a 73 911T with a 2.4L that I think is seized, will not turn over. But I am not sure, it had sat for over ten years as I was told by the seller, use to a track car, it is all flared out with huge tires and all. But my question is, is these a possibility that the rings could be stuck {rusted to walls} from sitting for so long, what do these engines do after setting for a long time?

Next question- how can I get more power out in this smaller engine I see that they don’t have that much hp. I have read that it helps to get different cams, and to switch to crabs, but is this really worth it, how much increase will this give, I would like to have around 300 hp, is this engine capable without spending thousands? Or am I just better of moving on up to more cubic inches, such as 3.0L, if so what will I need for a 3.0L to work in my car? Sorry for so many questions, I am just excited and am not sure witch way to go with the car, any suggestions will help thanks heath

The rings will rust to the walls if there is moisture present, as the cylinders are iron.

There is a number of things you can do w/ that engine to make MORE power, but nothing short of a twin-plug 2.8 RSR engine is going to get you to 300hp. 3.0L stock also not even close, with lots of mods maybe 270 ish. A VarioRam 3.6L is a good engine to do, easily 300+ hp.

Oh i see , i didnt realize these engines were so hard to get the hp up on, i mean my 924T 4 cyl engine is around 230, i thought a 6 cyl would have to problem to get around 300, but i guess i was wrong, so what is the most you can get out of a 2.4L? I guess i should get this engine going and see what it feels like, because i have never driven a 911 just my 924T. What would you suggest, would it be a wast on my time to play with the 2.4, or should i just go straight for the 3.0L 0r 3.6L?? thanks

From the sound of things (300hp), it would be a waste of your time to mess with the 2.4. Probably would only ever make 200, if that. The 3.0 SC engine of the 80-83 cars is a great torquey engine to transplant for a reasonable amount of $. The 3.6 is a lot more.....
