piston to cylinder clearance

Does anyone know the specs on piston to cylinder clearance for a 2.2T. I can't find any literature for the max allowance.

Depens whether you have Mahle or KS Pistons.

Mahle: 0.025-0.045
KS: 0.033-0.058

Did they come factory with those pistons? There is an "E" stamped in the inside of the piston and an "E" stamped on the top of the piston. The "E" or "M" has a # 119 under it.

It's an "M" . The M of Mahle. I don't know what the number is about.

Also, I have KS pistons in my engine. Maybe Porsche used these 2 brands silmultaniously.

that all depends what kind of motor you are building and how often you plan on replacing the piston rings.

I will be using new 9.8:1 forged pistons. I was trying to figure out what I had in this motor. There had been some upgrades. First time rebuilder. Thanks

Since you have a 2.2T you should have cast iron cylinders. Are they cast iron? If so its probably original.

Since you are going to forged pistons, you must go with the mfg recommend clearence to the cylinder. You MUST also know if the recommenced clearence is to a cast iron cylinder or an aluminum one.

For a forged piston the clearence may be anywhere between 0.002" all the way up to 0.008", all depends on the alloys. Do not ASSume anything. You must know the mfg tolerance.
