What are shortcomings of having crank Re-Nitrided and polished to get the journal bac

What are shortcomings of having crank Re-Nitrided and polished to get the journal back after spinning rod bearing(it is not that bad but they often are not that bad). $900-1000 is cost to fix crank.

What is the difference if I use such a "repaired" crank on a (i) steeet, (ii) race track.

And has anyone been using Armond at CCR for crank work. He comes highly recommended.Who else does the nitriding well?

Thank You

The journal will usually have to be welded first, then nitrided. I have seen crankshafts with welded journals used in 911 engines that see 9000+ rpms without any problems.
Armando does excellent work. He can also be very very slow.

There is nothing wrong with a reconditioned crank as long as it is done right.

what about nitrating con rods? I have seen rsr rods nitrated, what does this do to the metal and why was it done?
