1973 E Targa engine upgrade options
Should I put the mfi on replacing the carbs. what would be the best options to increase the performance of the car ?
I want to find out what I need to do to top end the car, can you make it into a 2.7 and what components would get max horse power out of the car. |
Some people may say different, but seems to me engine swaps give you the most bang for the buck.
Sell your 2.4 or 2.4 core and buy a 2.7, 3.0, or 3.2 and bolt it in. Just my 0.02. When my 3.0 liter went south many years ago I got the $8000 rebuild estimate(stock rebuild, no power gain) and then went out and spent $5500 on a good 3.2. A few years later I sold the 3.0 for $1500. More power, more torque, and better gas mileage. One day I need to get a 3.6 for my 79 so I can retire the 3.2 to a leisurely life in the 72. Kinda like trickle down economics, only with Porsches. :) |

Is that ex David Dale's Car? My opinion is that a 73 911 is to old to make into a gruntier car without destroying the inherent charm on the car. As the last of the pre-impact cars far to 'valuable' to destroy I recently drove my 73 911 and my 914/6 round Taupo and the 911 was like a truck compared to the 914, The 914 would be a great car with 200+ hp but I'm faced with the same issue, would you do that to a genuine 914/6? One common conversion is swapping out the stock p&c for 2.2S p&c. This is a slip in. The other one that I liked was building it up to a 2.8 single plug. Grady Clay posted the specifics on this forum. 2.4E motor, swapped out the p&c and left everything else stock, approx. 230 h.p. If it's going to be a daily driver and you just want to get in it and go, the 3.2 is good for that. I had both in my '73 E targa. For viseral fun I like the 2.8 concept. I find my 2.4E w/carbs starts easier and has no surging vs. my stock '73S with mfi.
