Forgot assembly lube on camshaft
All,
I did a dumb thing on my rebuild. Somehow I got the impression that I did not need to coat the camshaft lobes upon installation. I did clean the camshaft carefully with alcahol and Kimwipes before installation. However, I did coat the rockers contact surface with the camshaft with assembly lube. Question is that, now I have the engine buttoned up, can I just smear some assembly lube on the camshaft while rotating the engine by hand? BTW, I rotated the engine many times while trying to time the cam. This shouldn't cause any damage right? thanks, anthony |
If you aren't using new cams&rockers I'd just squirt some motor oil in there and rotate the motor over a few times. Don't forget to squirt some in the rocker arm oiling holes.

Thanks Chris.
I had 7 rocker repolished due to very slight pittings. But I think they should be okay /w squirting oil on them as you suggested. ---anthony |
Yes you can coat the cam with assembley lube if you want to. It would still work the same if really needed.
Rotating by hand will not hurt as long as some kind of lube was present. |
