I just bought Tony Corlett's book Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera and in th performance upgrade segment he talks about induction and exhaust mods.
" A Carrera with independent throttle bodies, a Motec EMS, 964 camshafts and an SSI exhaust should make close to 20 hp. Add in "S" camshafts and racing pistons and the Carrera 3.2 engine is good for 300-320 hp!" Granted this is for the Euro spec cars with 10.3:1 compression and no cat. Question, when he talks about 'independent throttle bodies' does he mean carbs ie PMO's or Webbers? Simon |

Independent throttles are anything that have a butterfly for each cylinder.
For example, MFI, PMO's, Webers, TWM, etc. are all independent throttle bodies. The 3.2 has one big throttle body stock. BTW, when you calculate the cost of Motec($$$), $800 SSI's, and racing pistons (then you might as well make it 3.4L...), you are really upside down in that motor compared to a good 3.6L from a later 911. |
as per bruce andersons book, 3.2 ss motor off a 3.0. head work(big ports) ge 80 cams, 46 webers, rsr racing headers (im sure you could substitute 993 heat exchangers for this or b&b.) page 152. motor makes 325+ at 7500rpm. fun stuff

A lot of these upgrades were developed well over a decade ago when 3.6's were not available so they have a different appeal to a similarly priced conversion.
Here in Oz there seem to be a lot more carb'ed 3.0 and 3.2 engines pumping out big horsepower compared to 3.6 conversions. Perhaps many of the older mechanics just liked building there own hotrods. Simon |
