Anyone ID nikasil or alusil from this pic.

Hi all,

I have stripped down my 78/79 SC motor for the conversion to SS 3.2. Can anyone ID the clyinders and pistons as nikasil or alusil? I have them at home and can count the fins later but wanted to see if anyone can ID them from the pictures.

Thanks

Hi Alan, did you run a magnet on them?

Alan.UK 05-31-2005 05:53 AM

Hi Aaron,

I haven't yet but will do later tonight or tomorrow, I just wondered if anyone can ID them from the pic.

Thanks

Alan

I wish I could help, sorry

drab grey color = Alusil.

Eagledriver 05-31-2005 04:07 PM

I suspect Alusil based on the color. If you pull a cylinder off and show us the piston we can be more sure.

I tip Alusil also... sorry

Look for the stamp on the side.

Thanks for the info. Here are some more pics I have just taken, they look like Alusil....

Thanks

PS Can anyone give me an idea on what this set is worth? they are in very good condition. I have no use for them now as my J&Es are now here:)

Here is what is going on instead? Brand new 98mm barrels and J&E pistons (10.5:1 CR)

Psyche. That will be sweet to get the extra horsepower.

Note: I got $300 for my set of Alusil with 108K on them. Not sure if that was good or bad, but I had no need for them.

I'd say Michael did real good. I had a set good Alusil pistons I got tired of looking at and threw them in the trash.

The cylinders can always be used by someone who wants to bore them out and plate.

Those cylinders are from 3,0L. You canīt bore them.

Alan, your new pistons and cylinders looks really good !!

If you like to get an other price estimation, I have seen those 3,0L cylinders in german e-bay about 350 euros per set. I think that is too much and I have tried to get them about 200 euros per set, but no luck.

914timo 06-06-2005 10:19 PM

I think these were good deal.

E-bay

Alan.UK 06-06-2005 11:41 PM

Hi Timo,
Those were a good deal as they are the 3.2 version, so the cylinders do not have a sealing ring like the 3.0ltr ones. Those would make great cores to be overbored to 98mm.

Michael (mtelliott), through what channel did you sell yours?
