Head stud length is measured from flange or spigot top?

Stock steel head studs in a 3.0.

Bentley (section 130-5) looks like it shows the measurement taken from the flange, as does Wayne (figure 3-34).

However, I found a few threads on the topic but no clear (to me) answers. What do you think?

Installed Head stud length is measured from flange or spigot top?

Thanks, but I'm looking for the reference point on the case from which the 135mm measurement of an installed head stud is taken. Currently there are no previously installed head studs to use as reference.

head studs

measure from the seal surface for the cyl on the case to overall height of stud (if its the factory style) and not the ARP with the bullet style, should be in the 134 to 135mm range
