closing chain housing, sealant or not????

Hi,

I'm in the fase that i'm closing the chain tensioner housings.

In Wayne's book he states that all that's used is a gasket between the covers & housing.

On a lot of 911's I saw that an additional sealant was used. (574 or some silicone based sealant). Is this a proven procedure to assure a leak free engine? Is the gasket alone not enough?

If so, what's the best product to use? 574, Dirko or Curil T?

Thanks Hessel

I put mine in dry and to date I have no leaks.

I used a very thin film of hylomar on mine with no leaks.
I have a hard time installing paper gaskets dry. Some times it is necessary, more often it is not.
I would not use RTV but that is a personal preference.
