Modern induction & ignition on sub 3.0 motor

I’ve been looking into the EFI kit with the TWM stacks from Mike B's thread. This kit really looks promising. Not as cheap or easy as carbs, but oh well. I’m warming up to the idea of having a late 20th century mechanical skill set and nothing about these cars is cheap anyway.

Anyway, I’ve got another roller on the way to my house and I’m starting with a clean slate as far as drivetrain plans are concerned. I want something different than the 3.2 & short geared 915 that’s going in my brown car so I’ve been thinking of a hi rev motor hooked up to a 901. Henry's 2.8, a 2.6 RSR (92x66) or a High compression 2.5(90x66) are the three engines that I keep seeing in my head.

Has anyone ever built one of these small displacement hi rev engines with a modern EFI induction? Most of the engines I see of this size are either carb'd or MFI with RSR distributors. I want something more exotic than carbs and I’m not going down the custom MFI route again. Very cool but too much money without the right core system. BURN-BROS distributor would be perfect, but I just scored an electromotive twin plug setup for really cheap so Id like to plan to use that.

TIA

I have never done a motor like you are talking about doing. I have only installed EFI on a 3.0L 930 motor. I will tell you that EFI is the coolest thing. You will not be disappointed. Maybe frustrated but not disappointed. The tuning possibilities are endless. (that is the frustrating part).

Have fun with your project.

Sherman:

Send me an e-mail and I'll send you some pics of our new EFI tall-butterfly induction system.

Compared to TWM, I do not think you'll be disappointed,...:)

My 2.2 GT5 race engine is has TWM throttle bodies, tall PMO manifolds, sequential injection. twin plugs

I havent driven it in anger yet, but it starts and revs realllll nice

TimT 06-12-2005 05:45 PM

oh and it ignition is crank fired.. wasted spark.. it has 6 two tower coils

Shuie 06-12-2005 06:25 PM

thanks guys.

Steve, incoming email from my hotmail account

Tim, what does 'wasted spark' mean? You need the twin plugs on the small hi comp motors, right? Or is that just for the bigger motors?

Shuie 06-12-2005 06:45 PM

Wow. I just got some detail pics from Steve at Rennsport. If you are thinking of buying a ITB setup you really owe it to yourself to look at the high butterflies he mentioned above. Im going back to study the pics now....

TimT 06-12-2005 07:25 PM

Waste spark means cylinders fire in pairs

1-6
2-4
3-5

one coil fires two cylinders

Please post the high butterfly ITB pictures here. I am pretty much sold on the ITP Electromotive setup from Clewett.

Jeff:

I'll send you a set of pics tomorrow,.....:)

Brother: Send me an e-mail and I'll get you some as well.

I've given my word to Wayne not to offer anything for sale on his website.
