Sparkplugs and oilfilters
Hi I wondered what the best spark plug was for a 3.2 stock class
race engine I have been using Bosch platinum r3 ? Also whats the best flowing oil filter? I have been using Fram because they are easy to get am I missing out on some filtering? Has anybody had any experience with the take apart style filters? And last question are the filter magnets worth using. I am just finishing reassembling my engine after a spun bearing and want the best filtration possible. Thanks Palmer |
Don't waste your money on platinum or fancy tipped plugs. Standard copper single electrode plugs work best. I'm partial to NGK but don't have specific #'s for your application.

Never,....EVER,..use a Fram filter on a 911.
I have a large garbage bag of American filters that I've removed from 911's over the year to show people what happens. The cases are split, ballooned; the elements shift, and there are no anti-drainback valves on these things. Remember, when a filter fails on these cars, you cannot see the trail of oil until its far too late. IMHO, these engines are too damned expensive to risk by using a cheap and inadequate oil filter. Use the factory ones (Mahle-Mann) and you will be better off. |
Beru Silverstones are a good non-resistor plug. I also use the NGK iridium resistor plugs too on my '70 911T with excellent results. I'm going to pull them out after my drive from Chicago to Hershey for Porsche Parade and see how they look.
I'm a big fan of the mobil 1, amsoil, and K&N oil filters. All have very well constructed housings, anti-drainback valves, and synthetic media which offers better filteration without the restriction of a paper element (as with the pureolator pureone elements which are known to clog up in 3+ K miles). |
Factory filters only i.e. Bosch, Mann or Mahle
as for plugs, platinums are a waste of money, regular Bosch Supers are fine, NGK are good as well... DO NOT use Fram |
Thanks for the info. I will use Mahle now. I have been cutting the filters
after every track avent and have never saw a problem with them and only saw stuff in them after a engine failure. Has anybody used filter magnets? I agree theses engines are to expensive skimp on . Thanks again Palmer |
The NGK number for a 3.2 is a BPR6ES

In the uk the NGK catalogue only lists B8EGV for the 3.2 hope that helps!

The BPR6es is the number you get when you cross reference with the Bosch WR7DC. I have used them for years....
