valve adjust.
Hi
did you try to do the job, with a gauge ? why not ? Philippe |
i mean with a dial indicator

I like the idea of setting up to do this with an indicator but I don't think it is that easy to get the correct setup....you need to be careful that the rocker is tensioned in the same manner as when the engine is in use. I think using a feeler with proper technique is good enough....set to tightish but still able to rotate out without hard pulling....others may have another description....this should get it easily within +/- 0.0003" or so in my opinion. This has got to be good enough...the factory probably didn't ever get it this close unless they dialed the valve lift against a crank angle, that would probably be the perfect way to do it...

When I had my engine out last winter, I tried setting them with a dial indicator. But when I compared with a feeler I didn't get consistent values, so I went with the feeler. I thought it would harder to get that wrong due to user error.

If you have nothing but time a D.I. will work......but .004 is .004 no matter how you measure it and a feeler guage will get the job done today! just make sure its a snug fit of resistance when nut is locked
