piston squirter found at oil change...
 

The title says it all unfortunately, my mechanic found a piston squirter in the sump plate when they changed the oil!!!

The engine is a hi comp 2.4 (s pistons and e cams) built on a 7r case , it has about 3000 miles on it. The oil pressure was showing low from the beginning - when warm would be apx 40 psi at 4-5000 rpm and light would come on at idle most of the time.

I put that down to having the wrong sender (0-1.0 instead of 0-1.5 bar i think) as the part number was a later model sender. The sender is located on the oil tensioner lines as it was a later addition. maybe it was the right one after all!

any possible engine damage??? the squirter has not been chewed up and still has the loctite on it apparently.

are there any tricks to make sure it doesn't come loose again???? larger diameter squirters if the hole is stuffed etc...

does this happen often? i guess we will know more when we open it up...

Hi nathan. Your mechanic needs to 'stake' the squirter in place. Oh, and "stuffed," in your usage..."are there any tricks to make sure it doesn't come loose again???? larger diameter squirters if the hole is stuffed etc..." doesn't translate to anyone outside NZ or Australia..!

Count yourself lucky fornot detonating a piston or having that squirter catch something internally!

I don't think 40 psi @ 4-5k is too low. I would think you'd have lower pressure if an oil squirter came off since there'd be a drastic reduction in oil restriction at that point.

Let us know what your tech discovers.

As you will have to tear down the engine to replace the squirter i think youll find if any damage was done. If you don't know Steve Rasmussen or John Waring will be the best poeple in NZ to talk to, call me on 09 620 1356 for their numbers
