Can someone identify this switch
Can someone identify this switch - it's attached the oil breather cover?
I'm guessing it's a oil temp switch. But it seems to have been disconnected long ago. I'm wondering if I should try to reconnect it while the engine is out... Any advice is much apprecriated? Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1123296174.jpg |
On my PET program this is 930 606 117 00 temperature switch...I think this is used to turn on oil cooling fans, at least I think that's what it does on my 89 3.2, I'd need to check the elec. schematic to be sure on that.
Since I have a Carrera and yours is an SC you may want to check other sources. On the 89 the pn is 118 instead of 117. I replaced mine when I did the top end. Hope this helps. -h |
It appears as though there is a wire behind the temperature switch that is terminating on the stud? I believe this wire should be connected to the temperature switch. I would highly suggest you replace this switch with a new one, they are rather inexpensive and it appears as though there is some oil gaining access just underneath the switch.

If my crappy memory serves, my buddy Mark (Pelican "Hald") traced that switch to a relay that had something to do with the heater blower.

Ditto on what Chris said, it is a temp. switch that makes the rear blower fan come on when the engine temp. gets too hot.
