MM strikes again.
I was at a local P shop dropping my car off for some minor welding. The phone rang and the shop head answered it..... They talked for a bit on the phone then hung up. He comes walking back and mutterd MM struck again.
Some poor SOB had a 911 turbo race motor built by MM (WHY!??) and the thing blew up on its sixth lap......I'd call that "breaking" it in. When are people gonna learn? Better yet, when will they go out of business? Damn cockroaches, I tell you. |
That sucks. No matter how many times people hear about MM there are still some that will say:
"If they were as bad as people say, they'd be out of business." "They do lots of motors, of course they are going to have a few disgruntled customers." I feel really bad for the people selling 911's that mention that MM rebuilt the motor. -Chris |
Granted, this is MM and we don't know the entire story. There could be some buck-passing involved. This wouldn't be the first motor to blow up after a few laps. This wouldn't the first time an engine builder is blamed. Granted, this is MM.
Let's hear more. Sherwood |
Has anyone here, or someone you know, had a succesfull rebuild from MM?
|
I think that they (MM) have 1 .............that's right...........1 customer on their website proclaiming their love for his 'freshly rebiult' engine from MM

They do have an impressive website (havenīt seen it before), fools you to think they know their business.... Maybe the do know, but just donīt care.
|
I spoke with them after my engine was rebuilt by VCI last year and they were very interested in all my old used parts...scared the crap out of me.
|
Thats right..... Take all your old beat up crap to the Pomona swap meet. MM will buy it all. Not kidding.... I feel sorry for the motors it goes into.
|
I would only buy from them if you live in Calif, as there engines are "California Proven", but evidently not proven in other states :)

Just go to their site and look at the "Philosophy and Process" page:
http://www.motormeister.com/suz/philo_process.htm No s#!t, they have a "different philosophy from other rebuilders". Disgusting. |
Not too much of a departure from other rebuilders. During a rebuild, parts aren't automatically replaced just because they're used. In fact, unless they're excessively worn and/or past refurbishing, the great majority of parts are reused and/or refurbished (crank, valves, cams, con rods, rockers, crankcase, etc.). The exception would be normal wear items such as rings, bearings, seals, gaskets, etc. and the occassional piston/cylinder.
However, there's a questionable statement on this page: "Replace the one piston and cylinder and reprocess all six in an experimental way and install some special piston rings." "Experimental" as in we test in your engine? Perhaps a poor word choice. The term, "special" doesn't inspire confidence either. MHO, Sherwood |
Safe and others, yes there are a few MM rebuilds that were/are successfull. Mine is one.
But my experience with MM was less then successfull by a longshot! Would not recommend them to any one for any reason. Even though its been over 4 years and more then 2 dozen track days ( DE's and AX) I still turn the key slowly when starting her up. (not right now as Im replacing the clutch) I am currenty saving for up for the replacement engine that I know I will need. |

I think they send one out to a real shop for rebuild now and then...so they can cite examples of their work to prospective customers.

Hey all, I'm new to the board and I must say,....I feel sick. I just got my car back from MM and am not feeling too good about it now. I thought I'd done my homework and had taken the recommendations of a few who were or are as green as I. Mind you, I don't race, autocross or even sit in traffic. In the past 5 years I've maybe put 300 miles on my pampered vehicle. During this break-in period, I can't really make a judgment. All seems fine and I'm still getting over the humungous financial pill I just swallowed. Needless to say, I wish I'd joined this board 6 months ago. I'll keep y'all posted as to what happens in my car's future........

This is your typical MM rebuild from all the ones I have seen.
The rings will break in some day....Yah right! This puppy fogs the lot every morning when I pull it out. I don't think the engine even has 5000 miles on it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1124929986.jpg |
Discouraging. :(
|
I've had a puff or 2 in the past week. Nothing as bad as what was pictured.....I feel sick.

At least you know it has oil pressure!!
