which intermediate shaft

I feel like Dr. Frankenstein. Ive got my 7R case, Carrera oil pump, and a nice 66mm crank and set of rods that I found locally. The last major component I need for the bottom end of my motor is an intermediate shaft. Which one do I need to use? Or does it even matter since it all has to go to the machine shop? The only one I see on the bay is from a 3.0.

TIA

As far as I know, all after 68 interchange.

certainly till 88.

But the case centres differ, and the crank and intermediate gears need to suit this.

There is a table in the book..

Kind regards
david

I looked in the book and I can see how the gears need to line up now. With the 7R case and a 66mm crank can I use the shaft assembly from a 2.7 motor? Or do i need to swap the timing gear from a smaller motor onto the shaft assembly. Or am I just making this harder than it needs to be?

TIA

Hello again.

The numbers ( 0 or 1) stamped into the crank gear, case , and int gear need to be compatible according to the table.

This is well covered in the book..

Kind regards
David

Where? Ive read the book more than once. What do I need to go back and re-read?

So a 0 intermediate shaft assmebly from and SC would work with a 66mm crank that has a 0 timing gear?

thanks again.

There is a number 0 or 1 stamped on the front of the case somewhere (I don't remember exactly where, but it should be around the nose bearing to intermediate shaft cover area). If you have a 0 case then you can use zero gears or 1 zero gear and 1 one gear. If the number is a 1 then you can use 1 gears or one of each again.

In reality if you are using a used aluminum gear there will be enough wear on it to make these combo's meaningless. Just put it together and see how much backlash you have.

The fact that you are using a 66mm crank has no effect on these numbers.

thanks. I found it in the book as well. p. 76 at the top.

I'll go bug the guy that sold me the case to see if he still has the intermediate shaft assembly.
