Is there a difference in valve angle between 2.2 and 2.4 heads?
I am still trying to decide which motor to build, but the "Ultimate 2.0" is slowly edging ahead of the 2.8SS. It is details like this that will help me make the final decision.
It appears that knock sensitivity is improved by ditching the high domed 2.0 heads for 2.2 heads, even with twin plugs. The Rennsport site states that 2.2 heads work great on a 2.0, but what about 2.4 heads? They are built for the same bore, but is there a difference in valve angle? I believe they have differening head volumes, but if you are having JEs made, that shouldn't matter. It appears the flatter valve angle of the 2.2 is what makes them superior to the 2.0, but have yet to hear an assessment of the 2.2 vs. 2.4 heads in a 2.0 application. Thanks! |
2.2, 2.4, and 2.7 heads are all basically the same. The 2.7 heads are angle cut for the larger bore, but the 3 are essentially identical as far as valve head diameter, angle and stem diameter. Port sizes vary by model, of course.
