Oil Pressure

I did the 964 turbo oil line adapter mod recommended in wayne's book. My motor's oil pressure seems a bit high, don't know if that's bad or good. Once 230 degrees is reached, i get about 4 bar at 2k, 1.2 bar at idle ~900, and 5 bar at about 2.7k-3k rpm. I'm running castol gtx 20-50 oil (mineral oil).

I did this mod as well on my rece car and felt the pressure was too high especially when cold. I took them off and won't use them again unless my engine wears to the point that I need an oil pressure boost.

The reason i ask is because my top end rebuild, now with about 200 miles on it, had absolutely no leaks. Now all of a sudden the on engine oil cooler leaks slightly, and i'm wondering if maybe the higher than normal oil pressure is to blame? Any comments wayne?

I have em on my engine, about 2 bar at cold idle, 1 bar at warm idle, after that it stays at 1.5 bar per 1000 rpm but doesn't go over 5 bar even at redline. Just what I like.

What is your maximum oil pressure at redline?

fastred,

I used the same restrictors on my rebuild and no leaks since. I see about the same pressure as Sam.

Hmm, maybe i need to tighten the oil cooler and stop thinking it's the pressure. I reach ~4.5bar at 3k on up to redline. I get about 1.5 bar at idle (assuming it's cooperating and staying at 950 rpm like it should) hot, and 4bar at idle cold (not really that cold in the desert). Other than that no complaints, no leaks on any oil lines, pressure tensioner lines, or anywhere else that i would expect it to leak. Just the cooler.
EDIT: Is there a way to get to the top oil cooler bolts without dropping the motor. It seems almost impossible with the CIS in the way.

adding my 2 cents...I put the smaller orfice fittings on my 3.2 as part of a top end rebuild. 1.1 to 1.2bar at hot idle was below 1bar. I also notice that the level shows, quickly or when just above idle, when before only when hot and idling for a minute or so. There are a number of stories re. why this is good....e.g. better pressure to middle crank bearing, less foaming in case....
