Bottom End Complete!

Little update:

Went out to garage after watching F1 qualifiying & coffee.Double checked that all hardware, parts & supplies present & accounted for.Cleaned crank, rods for last time.Everything went together just like it is supposed to.Decided to forgo the plastigauge step due to comment in Wayne's book. With bearing shells being much thinner in width than rods,I could see how they could maybe get tweaked by torqing/loosening.As I posted before, all journals/rods were @ spec.Should be no problemo!Checked side clearances, also right on the money@.22+/- .005. Crank, inter.shaft, oil pump everything layed right in.No excess play or movement anywhere!:)
Hardest part of the whole thing was spreading out the 574,getting thru bolts o-rings applied w/ sealant & everything together before things started drying, but got it there, finally!
So now I have a complete block sitting & waiting for so more parts to go on.Total time guess about 12 hours, but did take a few breaks along the way, also had a humming bird fly into the garage during the day so I had to stop & turn off all the lights & open the doors so he could get out.He really liked my garage or was it the Porsche:D he just didn't want to leave.
Tried to snap a couple pics, but camera not being cooperative:(
try again later after I check it out a little!

Thanks for listening!

CJR1,

I have just finished putting my 1975 2.7L rods on the crank. Where did you find the side clearance specifications (0.22+/- .005)? I have 3 books on 911 engine rebuilding and cannot find the spec anywhere.

Rod side clearances

Rex,
The specs are on pg.205 of Wayne's rebuild book. The actual spec for my engine-85 3.2 are ".200-.350".By +/- .005 I meant that was "my actual" measurements.Specs for yours, according to Wayne's book are-.200-.400.So you actually have a little more room allowance than I.

Hope this helps!

Chris

CJR1,

I see the spec on Pg 205 now. I looked there about 6 times and didn't see it until now - thanks.

Rex
