3L or 3.2L crankshaft how do I tell???
Hi guys got mr crankshaft but i'm not sure if i've sold a 3L sc one or a 3.2 Carrera one!! I haven't got my old one to match it up as it is a long way away with the engine thanks again Ian Ps im asking because I think i've been stitched up!!!

The rod journals are bigger on the 3.2 crank. The journals are 55mm for the 3.2 and 53mm for the 3.0. The actual numbers are slightly smaller but these numbers will do to tell the difference between the cranks. Of course you could measure the stroke as well. These numbers are available in all the books.

Hi Ian. This crankshaft dimension which Andy is talking about is listed for different engines on page 204 of Wayne's rebuild book, together with a diagram of the crankshaft illustrating these. You're probably more knowledgable than I am, but personally I wouldn't be too sure which bit was the rod journal without this diagram! Just use a vernier caliper to measure it.

Thanks guys have measured it and have got a 3L one! It will be going back to the shop on monday!!!!

Bad luck man - that's such a pain! That's very bad they claimed it was a 3.2 - where did you buy it from?
|
Design911 sold it to me and claimed it was unmarked and unmachined, however it had a spun journal and had been machined before so it's scrap! A friend collected it for me so I hadn't seen it.
|
Thats typical of design 911 ive had bad experiances also with them in the past, dont know there arse from there elbo half of them who work there!
|
Damn that's a pain. I've used Design911 before and they've always been very good, although I've only ever used them for small things. Perhaps they're not so reliable for larger items. Is there a chance they sent you the wrong crank by mistake, or are they just crap? I expect you should get your money back from them okay though.

Ian - I've just PM'd you about something...

Charles thanks had seen it and am keeping tabs....Ian

3.2 crank and rods should be about $1500 these days...
