Realistic cost of building a 2.5 or 2.7rs?

Just thinking about doing it. I was wondering what a realistic budget would be before I go and get set on doing it.

There is no answer to this question. You'd have to find a core engine and then add the costs of parts/machining. You have to decide if you want carbs or fuel injection. You have to decide to use old or new parts. Mahle or JE pistons. Mag case or aluminum case. The variations are almost limitless.

Andy thanks for the reply. Perhaps if I am a little more specific then? I am thinking aluminium case and pmo 46's, twin plugged. Possibly, ne Nikasil p and c's. As far as used parts - whatever parts I can pretty much count on not failing soon after i get this thing together. Does this help put a dollar estimate on its construction?
I just want an estimate on the parts and machine work - please do not include labor.
Any other details I need to be more specific about to get an accurate estimate?

when you say rs just add lot more 0s to 1 mark as there is induction exhust ,ignition stuff that will make bill gates screeem.
I have seen the dizy sell for over 5000.00!!!!thats just a start

not less than $10k assuming you dont already have a core or a parts stash.

PMO 46 - complete wrong for this displacement, unless you're going to run at 8000 all the time. The 40s are good for anything from 2.0 to 3.2 for street engines. Even 3.4 too.

Thanks Wayne. I suppose I need the reality check. I was reading an article in Total 911 - or something like that, it's a British mag - and the feature was an ST running a 2.5 with 46's. The writer made this setup sound pretty good to me. I guess I got a little carried away. I'm sure , for the street, the 40's are good.

The Factory 2L cars all ran 46 's for racing..the Carrera 6 engine...

I have never driven one, but believe the power was from 5,5K to 8K at best..

My 1700cc 4 pot race crossflow motor makes just 185 HP at 7,600 and runs 48's with 38MM chokes( restricted)..45's lose power between 5k and 8,500rpm..

But unless you are red-hot and have a superb shifting close ratio gearbox you'll be quicker with milder cams and carbs..
