How to set 964 cams in 911SC
I have sent my 911SC cams to web cam to hard weld them and re-profile them to 964 profile.
Now that I got them back I was thinking that if I put them back in the same position they wore in it all would work right, wrong.
Since the profile is different cams have to be set differently.

Any one knows how to set (time) this cams ????

Did you get new rockers or reground ones? THe timming for the 964 cam is 1.26 IIRC. A quick search here will confirm that. THe last SC motor that I put these in I timed at 1.30 and was happy with the results.

NO I Did not get new rockers or reground ones.
Do I need different rockers for the 964 cams?

You need to resurface your stock rockers or the result will most likely be accelerated lobe wear on the new cams. Bushings will also need to be inspected in the rockers at the same time. Proper breakin procedure for new cams is to run at a fast idle (2000-2500 rpm) for 10-15 minutes . This assures lots of oil spray for the brief initial breakin period.

I installed 964 grind in my rebuild. I also had my rockers resurfaced and bushings replaced, 1.26 is the timing number per camgrinder. I set mine a little advanced and 3000 miles later it still makes me smile at 4000+ RPMs.

1.26 mm is factory spec. I have had customers set them as far advanced as 2.0 mm. It depends on where you want an increase in HP.
If you 99% street drive the car set them at 1.4mm-1.6mm , track only set at 1.26mm. Its a slight shift at best, .3mm is about 1 degree of camshaft timing.

There aren't really "best" tools, there are some "must have" tools. You will need the "z block" holder and a dial indicator. You will also need the special cam holding tool. Not sure if you had cams reground that use the nut of the bolt for fastening the gears as the cam holding tools are different. There is some good threads on this form describing the methos, it sounds confusing but it will all make sense when you have it all in front of you. Wayne's engine rebuilding book is a good source for this info as well.
