Machine Shop Recommendations please..
Going to be rebuilding my '82 930 engine this winter...
What are some machine shops I should consider for the work? I'm not going crazy here (ie: ported and flowed, yada, yada), just want quality work at reasonable cost. Basic items I'm looking at: headwork (valve job, valve guides, etc), magnaflux crank, resize/rebush/balance rods, rehone cylinders, balance pistons/wrist pins. After reviewing other posts, I'd say motor mis. is out. thx, Joe |
EBS man, they won't let you down.

There are lots of good shops out there and Supertec is one of them.
|
Depends on where you live. I reccomend Burtonsville Machine (Burtonsville, Md) Main man is: Micheal Mount.
Absolutely the best (at least) on the east coast for Porsche engine work. |
I did EBS, worked with Jon. Camgrinder did my cams and rockers. Both were great and more than happy to help and answer the many questions sent their way.

Competition Engineering and Ollies also come to mind.

(Anchor) Atlantic Enterprises in NJ. I send all my heads there. Very reasonable prices and quick turnaround. Too bad all he does are heads.

I used and would recommend EBS - and John for cams, I wouldn't hesitate to use Supertec, competition, ollies - and if chris is recommending Atlantic - then I'd check them out too.
I would not go with a company that didn't specialize in machine work specifically for Porsche cars. If I did it again, I would also check into pricing/services for JB Racing in Florida. The did my flame rings - and when I sent me heads from EBS to them - said - oh, we could have done those for you too. |
Use Henry at Supertec. I have my car with him now and he has been great to work with. He is very well recomended on this site. Pack your parts up in a box and send them to him! Check out his website at
Supertec Performance Just my nickel. My car at Henrys shop with motor pics (not finished yet). 91 911 turbo 3.3 |
Chris sent me to Anchor Atlantic for my 3.2 heads and they did a very nice job.

One more vote for Supertec!
I have dealt with Henry for the past year on two engine projects, and couldn't be more pleased!
He has ALWAYS taken time to answer my "stupid" questions, and been an outstanding source of technical expertise and seems to have all the strange parts I needed availible. I don't think you would be dissapointed! Jeff PS. Henry, you have my address and can send the $5.00 to me! |
I use Ted Robinson at German Precision. Great guy to deal with but you need to give him a rather long lead time because he's busy.
|
Henry @ Supertec has done a great job with eveything I've sent his way - and he is an extremely nice person to deal with knows a heck of a lot about these engines. The bonus is that his prices are very reasonable.
