Piston Ring Orientation

I am just about to install my pistons back into my cylinders and following waynes book it states that the gaps in the two compression rings need to be opposed for best compression but not in line with the piston pin. However in the picture on the same page it shows the oil ring gap at the top and the two compression ring gaps at the sides of the piston where the pin would be, does this make any difference?

Thanks Steve

I've heard folks say to not allign the compression rings with the wrist pin, but eventaully the rings will rotate in lands anyway. Install the oil ring gap facing up 12 o-clock, and both compression rings at 8 and 4 if it makes you feel better.

Nope, doesn't make a difference. I'm aware of that contradiction in the book, but it wasn't important to clarify it...
