2.4 with carbs.......buy it sight unseen??
Hello all,
I have the chance to buy a 2.4 with carbs (E I have been told) for $3000 in running condition (65k miles on it). It has not been running in a couple of years though....and not with carbs only the CIS. a couple of questions? #1 can a compression test be performed and give a rough est on the internals shape #2 what engine #s would I need to determine if it is indeed a E motor? Thank you Joshua C. soon to be a 914-6 man........ |
If the engine is a 2.4 and ran at some time with CIS then you are probably looking at a 73 1/2 911T.
That is the only 2.4 that had CIS from the factory. If the engine has been sitting for years there is a good chance that a bad compression reading will not mean the engine is bad. On the other hand a good compression test will only tell you about the rings. A will have cast iron cylinders in some form and cast can rust if there is any moister present. The next problem is that if it sat where there was substantial moister water can separate from the oil and corrode the case around the oil strainer plate. Lots to think about when buying an unknown quantity. The engine number on the fan support will tell us what you are looking at. Good luck |
The gent selling the engine said it did indeed come with CIS, it NOW has weber 40's and a Crane ignition system BUT the webers have not been run on this engine, I will say it is VERY clean and all part that can be powder coated have been....It has been determined VIA your alls info that it is a "T" motor. 73.5
Still a deal?? Josh PS it has been in a garage in AZ since its removal |
If the motor is not corroded (arizona bodes well) and the weber 40s are good, it is a good deal. However, I can't tell you if either of these things is the case.

This thing wouldn't happen to be bright yellow, would it?
Ebay rules. Good luck on the bidding . |
Henry.........
I am BUSTED....lmao, Yeah the guy is local to me here in MD, he knows very little about it per our disscusion aside from what you read, Hesaputz/David (pelicanite) are working together to build a 2.4 S motor to include rebuilt 2.4 heads with S-specs ports and the rest of an engine, I am short engine tin and carbs for my 914-6 conversion. I do like the powder coating work he has done and I would'nt mind that stuff on my ride......not to mention a spare motor would be nice....BUT who the hell knows?? It'll cost me $3000 just to have his guy out in OK build the engine......I am already commited for the heads and other engine stuff. You built a monster engine for him did'nt you?? some 300hp beast. |
