Valve clearance check - assemble one side only?
I'm performing the dry assembly of the head and checking valve clearance according to Wayne's book...seems logical to me I really only need to assemble one side for the check, right? all along the way so far all my left and right side measurements have been spot-on.
thanks edited for spelling... |
Nope, both sides may be different, pariticularly if one head on one bank needed to be machined slightly more. It's wise to check both sides...

Thanks Wayne.
I guess I'm asking if my #1 and #4 cylinder deck heights match, they valves all match, thr cams are new regrinds from John, and the cam carriers are known good, is there a risk that valve clearances on one side would differ significantly from the other? |
You will very likely see differences side to side. It doesn't take much longer to do both sides. I had about .010 inches difference side to side.

Measure twice, assemble once. Once you got all the sealer on there and then find out you have an interference, you'll be really bummed.
