Review - Torin Big Red 600lb lift table

I saw that Pep Boys was having a sale on these 600lb lift tables until May 6th ($119) and wanted to share my experiences with the one I bought. Construction & operation: Heavy - black painted steel, single hydraulic cylinder, step lever to pump up table height, handle mounted pressure release to lower table, 2 fixed wheels, 2 swivel wheels. Comes partially unassembled but not difficult to put together. Take a friend if you are picking it up, it is HEAVY. The height worked out fine for me for putting the engine into and taking it out of the engine bay. I had the rear bumper removed during the process and had the rear of the car up on the tallest jack stands I could find at AutoZone. The table will support a fully loaded 930 engine (including muffler) with the transmission attached. I'm sure it was close to the 600lb limit, but I was able to move the engine around the garage single handedly with no problem. It was a real convenience to be able to test fit the engine and transmission without having to get a lot of help. Since I was fabricating intercooler mounts, it helped to be able to slide the engine into place to check for clearance without it being a big deal. Bonus: after my rebuild, the table has become a real table in the garage rather than something I need to find a place to store. Verdict: I like it and felt like it was well worth the investment.

Wayne, Here are a couple of pics with the engine on it. I removed the rubber mat and put a piece of cardboard on the table surface to make it easier to slide the engine around when needed. BTW, your book was great! Many thanks, And here's one with the transmission attached (behind the tire).

Will it raise the engine high enough to transfer it to an engine stand? Seems a lot easier than using a lift with a spreader bar... If so, this seems like a nice price...the one at harbor freight was considerably more...

On mine the table top goes up to 31" above the floor. I don't know if that would get the case high enough to attach to an engine stand (anyone have the numbers?).
