Oil Pressure Switch

What is the purpose of the oil pressure switch, located at the front of the engine, mounted to the top of the banjo bolt on a 79 930 engine? What does it switch?

The oil pressure sender and oil temp sender are located at the rear of the engine, next to the fan assembly, and I understand their functions.

Thanks
