Marking Torqued Nuts
I was thinking of using a perm metal marker to mark items I have torqued down. This is because I have kids and only get a few hours a week to work on putting the engine back together and am afraid I'll forget I torqued something or worse, think I did when I really didn't.
I am looking at the metal paint markers in the MSC catalog: MSC Catalog Page: 2618 Should I be worried that this stuff will come off in the case and clog something vital?? Outside the case I'm not concerned. -Michael |
You might check with the Aircraft Spruce catelog as in the aircraft industry they use a paint to mark the nuts and bolts that have been torqued. That way they also can inspect hardware and know if it has loosened during preflight and periodic inspections.

Just checked out your link. I think I would go with the Industrial Markers if you are worried about stuff coming off and clogging an oil passage way. The paint tends to glob on.

Right, like a permenant marker. That way if it disolves then it wont clog anything. I bet a red sharpie would work just fine now that I think about it!
Thanks! -michael |
I've used "anti-sabotage" stuff on external parts but I have no idea how it would react inside an engine... Permanent marker isn't on oily parts so that doesn't work (tried it). I use a yellow grease pencil. Temporary, harmless, does the job...

I just use a yellow crayon. It's probably not the best solution.

Chris that's totally simple and should work well at zero cost... Therefore we're all against that! :D

I know, first hand, how cheap Sir Bennet is! He cleans his parts with brake clean over a rose bush so he can fertilize the bush while he's at it... no joke!
did that thing blum again this year?? -Michael remote messin' wit 911's member |
