Help my Dad?
Can someone in or near Santa Rosa help my Dad.
We are in the process of restoring a 1970 911T with a 2.2 and Zenith Carbs. We rebuilt the engine and carbs and have it all back in the car. We have tried to start the car a few times now with no luck (it acts like it wants to start but will not catch). We have check for spark, checked for fuel pressure even, rechecked the valve adjustment. If there are any Porsche experts in his area we could use your Help. |
I am a long way from California and don't have any suggestions but I do believe this will get better response on the tech board. Many more eyes over there and this certainly would qualify as a tech question as well.
Good Luck |
Thanks will do.

Is there fuel in the carbs, what about spark? Pull a plug is it wet?
At TDC is the rotor pointing to the little mark, check the timing? |
Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. I will pull the plugs one more time and check again.
|
What about the order of plug wires, double check they match the firing order?
1-6-2-4-3-5 Here is image which shows the layout of the cylinders. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133566291.jpg |
I'm nearby in Petaluma, but unfortunately can only offer words of encouragement.
|
I am close by. don't know if I would be much help but if I can I will help.
I wil pm you my phone number. Had the same car at one time. |
You know what would be helpful is a photo or diagram of the
spark plug wires going into the distributer cap. We have checked and re-checked them. My only concern is that they seem to be in the reverse order of my 88 911, can this be right. I was under the impression they were the same firing order. |
same firing order but the distributor rotates the opposite direction in the 1988.

I can't imagine this is a Porsche unique problem. Any good old mechanic should be able to help on this.
This has the 051 distributor? Timing and dwell set correctly? There is spark at the plug tips? I never worked on Zeniths, but I presume they are like Solexes. Floats actually float in gasoline? Is there gas in the float chamber and to the right level? Did you check the carburettors off the car by blowing air down the venturis and get gas to flow? Does the accelerator pump put out the correct amount? Did you measure it? |
Seems to me that Jim may have identified your problem...

I thought the same thing Chris.
|
The wires are in the reverse order of my 88 911 so the wires on the 70 911 are correct, if so lets still trouble shoot.
|
Do you have compression in the cylinders?
|
checking I will let you know.
