I seem to have a leak.........
I seem to have an oil leak on one side of the engine where the cam tower and heads interface and where the chain box interfaces with the case. Thus I need to remove the value covers, remove the spocket/cam nut/chain and then remove housing.
Are there any shortcuts I could take? For example, would it be possible to reseal with without completely remove the cam tower and housing? Don ____________________________________ 1963 356B Super 1969 911S 1981 911 SC |

if it were me i'd make for sure where the oil was coming from before taking anything apart. a leaky rocker shaft can seem like a leak between the head and cam tower.
I'd try some of that dye and a black light and find the source then make a plan.

Here is my idea. I loosen the cam tower nuts and the loosen the chain housing fastners. Then without having to remove the cam nut or the cam, I remove the tower and the housing together. Seal up faces with sealant.
Is this possible? don _____________________ 1963 356B Super 1969 911S 1981 911 SC |

I don't think you can remove the chain from the cam gear without removing the cam gear.
you're planning to do this on an engine stand, right???

No engine stand. Just the jack I used to remove the engine with.

Don,
The housing and the seal between the cam and housing goes on before the sprocket/cam nut. See Wayne's book

Ned,
Ok. I was just trying to avoid the scary job of doing the cam timing thing. Don |
