What are the differences between a 79 3.0 engine case and a 84 3.2L case?

I noticed the case numbers are the same but are these truly the same case? What are the differences and can a 3.0 case be used to rebuild a 3.2 Carrera engine without any more modifications? Are they both aluminum...I guess I'm just not sure, any help is greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Alex

no drain plate on 3.2. no place to mount the flywheel sensor bracket on the 79. painted dilivar studs on the 3.2. i built a carbed 3.2 engine using a SC case for my shop bus a while back. 92 turbo crank and rods, 3.2 P+Cs, 79 heads and SC cams.

Thanks John!

Any differences or advantages of 3.2L case from a structural standpoint? How did you ended up mounting the sensor bracket to the case? What I really need is a Carrera Standard case, I had mine repaired (heli-arc welded) but it slightly warped the case only on the intermediate shaft case corner. The repair itself was very well done but I should have pre-assembled the case first, instead I provided my welder the damaged half only. What to do?

Best Regards,

Alex

i ran it with carbs, so didn't need the sensors. i can't think of any structural differences, but maybe someone else knows something.
