New engine case stud removal
 

Hi guys, just finished reading over all the posts about removing the studs from 911 engine cases. Seems to be the guaranteed method is oxy-acetylene heating on the inside of the bore. Makes sense, but I have a brand new case complete with factory installed studs (dilavar lower, steel upper). I'm planning on upgrading to Supertec/Raceware as the engine is going to be 3.4 litre, TWM intakes, TEC 3 etc.

I'd like to remove the studs without damage so I can sell them - they are new after all - any special considerations for the fact they are new or that Porsche put them in? I am assuming they do not use any sort of special thread locker and heat will pull them off.....

Or should I just start reefing on them cold...what kind of torque could they take?

I use the snap on tool for stud removal and have never had damage to the studs or case.

I have another stud remover, tried it a bit this afternoon....saw minor indentations in the threads, so it looks like the Snap On remover is indeed better/different.....I'll give the Snap On guy a call next week after my liver is better.

I removed mine by double nutting them. All came out without heat except two of them. Also used Kroil on the studs. The shop where I'm working on the engine at uses Kroil as it's the only way they can get head studs out of Duetz air cooled engines. Didn't take a lot of heat to release the other two studs. Also be interested in the steel head studs if your going to sell them.
