Look at pics & tell me where oil is from
In the picks below my engine shows oil stains near where the cyclinder and case meet. Is this where the oil is from or is it from the breather cover?

more times then not is the oil P sender on top followed by breather/ "o" ring to thermostat/ followed by rocker shafts......BTDT everything else gets the blame but in the end it was so simple.........in my Case rocker shafts ( you could have never convinced ,proses of elimination did. university of hard knocks)
PS what with the belt thing??? and I am not seeing it (the oil leaks)

Another culprit could be the 'ole stretched/broken cylinder bolts. Any broken?
The definitive way to tell is to pour in some UV oil additive, drive it around, and get under there with a blacklight. You can usually find some from better auto stores (through they are getting fewer and fewer)

Hmm, there was small amount of irony in my reply.
It looks like a very minor (maybe you have cleaned it up in the picture) leak that is probably from the breather. Change the gaskets in the breather cover, t-stat and preassure switch just to be sure. Also change brather hose and clamp. This is my breather leak: ![]()

The belt "thing" is for the MFI pump BTW.
And I agree...no leaks there that I can see. Just years of dust and stuff going through the cooling fins. Also...because of the rotation and air flow...if you did have a leak in the area of the breather or the oil send unit...the stain would go in the other direction (towards the oil cooler). Bob

Oil leak - where.... See here for a real one that essentially killed the engine. The caked up oil prevented proper cooling of the heads/cylinders. Full rebuilt on my 3.6 - argh!!

Thanks. But I have an oil from somewhere. When the engine was in the car oil would drip down on the right side onto the exhaust and smoke up alot. I have to figure out where it coming come. There is a leak somewhere. If I cannot find it have have to reroute the exhaust so the oil just drip onto the street. Very little oil has to be added to the engine but it still makes alot of smoke and the smoke is not coming from the exhaust itself.

Rerouting the exhaust sounds like a pretty radical cure. If you can't pinpoint the source get a fluorescent stain additive. Do a search on the board. This will pin-point the source of the oil leak under fluorescent light. It gets mixed into the oil. Drive the car for a short while until the oil is warmed up and search for the traces with a black light source.
Cheers, Ingo

Did you tighten all the oil lines?

Don: If it leaks on to the HE I would look for leaks from valve covers, cam towers and maybe the oil cooler.

I have already changed the valve covers, I forgot to mention this, and it didn't solve the problem. I will look again, but the oil cooler seems OK. So it might be the cam towers. What is the best sealant to use when I reassemble?
