New engine rebuild
 

OK, so I just bought a 1973.5 911T and have, what I guess is an obvious question. I want to bump out the engine to 2.7-3.0 and not go to carbs. So, what do you recommend? Two paths I am thinking about are:

Option 1
a) Keep the CIS (I need some help on CIS performance mods if that is not an oximoron)
b) Bump up displacement to 2.7-3.0 (recommendation here please)
c) change to 964 (C2) cams (I have heard this is about the best you can do with CIS)
d) increase the compression to 9.5
e) any changes to head porting recommended or valve sizes?

Option 2
a) go with MFI setup (is there someone who sells RS space cams?)
b) Bump up displacement to 2.7-3.0 (again, need recommendation)
c) change cams to DE40 (have heard they are better than S)
d) increase compression to 9.5
e) I know that heads will need some change, so what is recommended?

I am sure this question has been asked several times before, but I have not really found a definitive answer, maybe there is none. Also, what kind of HP do you think each setup would yield?

I'd say that it depends on how original your car is now overall, and how original you plan to keep it, in the long term.

It will hold it's value most as an original, unmodified car. If you want more performance, w/o screwing that equation up completely, you might consider a engine swap for now, putting your original away for restoration or rebuild later. You have a 915 trans, which will accept anything up to a 3.2 motronic easily, giving you a lot of fun, and better economy too.
The 2.4 E motor with MFI or Webers is also a good choice, with even minimal mods, it will be a 160 to 180 hp engine with lots of torque.
