How do you rebuild a 3.2L Carrera distributor???

How do you go about rebuilding a 3.2L Carrera distributor? I'd like to do it myself if possible, what parts are needed and how to do it?

I have checked for upward and downward back lash but I'm not certain if it's within specification. Since I'm doing a total rebuild...I figured why take a chance. It doesn't appear to be difficult to access the internals but I would really like to know what to replace and how to do it and check it for proper fit.

3.2 Carrera dist. rarely need attention unless the shaft bushings are worn.
The spring and flyweight mechanism is generally good indefinitely.
Check your shaft for run out and if it's good leave it alone.
If there is excessive run out the bushing have to be replaced and I no of no source for the bushing other than to have them made. That is what we do.
After installing new bushings, they have to be reamed to size. This takes a custom made reamer.
All in all it's best to have a professional rebuild it for you.

I took mine ('88 3.2) apart but had to drill out the pin at the bottom that holds the gear...is that a part that can be purchased? It looked like it was pushed in and then hit with something that sort of smashed the ends to keep it in. I wanted to just take it apart to clean it and check for broken parts but as far as I can tell it all looks fine.

Henry, if you're still listening, is there any preventative maintnenance that we should be doing on the distributor? The bushings in mine failed a few months ago, and I would like to prevent that happening again if possible, as I replaced it with a used distributor. I've heard of putting some oil in the felt pad under the rotor, but I'm not clear on what that does, or if it's even applicable to the 3.2 distributor.
