3.2 from SC vs. 3.2 from 3L turbo?
some theoretical opinions please
all things being equal, what are the advantages/benefits (if any) of using an early turbo case to build a ss 3.2 vs. a ss 3.2 being built from an SC donor? assume that P&C's/cams/intake etc are all identical. is the difference in the crank? rods? length or weight? thanks. |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but early 3.0L turbo uses the 2.7 crank, being lighter and offering better revs... (but isn't quite as strong)

Chris is right; you could use either one, but if you are at the "parts collecting" stage you might as well sell the 3.0 turbo case to a 2.8SS racer and use an SC case for your build. the SC 9-bolt crank bolts stay tight better at very high revs, but for a street application this is unlikely to matter. If you have a case, crank, and rods you really want to use, I don't see why not.

that's the problem. i'm sitting on parts for both versions and other than uniqueness and a hidden desire for a frankenmotor, i'm not sure of any other benefits
i know there was something w/ the crank journals, but i don't remember. turbo pump would be nice to have as well. anyone know if intermediate shafts between an SC and 3L turbo are the same? |
If you're building an engine 3.0 or larger the 3.0 turbo case has no advantage.
The 9 bolt crank of the SC is better in all aspects. The advantage to the 3.0 turbo case is that you can put a 66 mm crank in it to make a high revving engine. The intermediate shaft is the same. Consider me a buyer for 3.0 Turbo case. |
