Actually some time ago, a guy in England did put 911 heads on a Type lV and even Turboed it, with cut & welded cam towers & custom cams.

Here is another project that is going on for a over head cammed Type lV : www.apfelbeck.nl

And here is another over head cammed -4 cyl in the works, except this one is more like a Porsche -6 cyl turned into a -4 cyl: Google Translate

Hey Type 4,
I am actually building a VW type 4 with 911 heads for my 912 right now, Russ Fellows in england is the guy your talking about, 400HP daily driver and at one time it was the fastest VW in the UK at the dragstrip also Frallen from the shoptalkforums has put a couple together. It was a pretty common conversion in Europe in the 80's and 90's

Some really cool and exciting stuff going on in the Type IV world. Am hoping to run the Carrera Panamericana again next year in my Karman Ghia, and would be great to do it with an OHC motor.

Any idea how far along these guys in the NL are in the project? There was also a guy in Germany working on 4V heads, that was written about in Excellence a while back, but cant seem to find much him.

I have been following the progress of the apfelbeck heads for at least ten years and I am not sure if they ever will be complete. There are several engines floating around that are OHC on the 1303 websites and I would check with Frallen on shoptalkforum. I have seen what you can pull off and if I can figure out how to do it, you certainly can. The hardest part seemed to be shedding the naysayers. they tend to wreck your spirit before you start!

I think the apfelbeck gang ran into $$ issues, as they were financing all the work themselves...
